Leila K. Varouxakis 1930-2000

Leila K. Varouxakis died Sept. 21, 2000, at her home in Clark. She was 70.

Leila was born Feb. 28, 1930, in Appleton, Wis., to the late Adolph and Harriet Hamilton. She married Theodore "Ted" Varouxakis in Maui, Hawaii.

Prior to her retirement, Leila was a schoolteacher for the developmentally disabled, and taught children of all ages. She also was a volunteer at Horizons of Steamboat.

Leila was an accomplished cook and enjoyed writing.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Ellyn McCrea of North Prairie, Wis.; two sons, David King of Columbia, Mo., and Daniel King of Bailey; two stepdaughters, Yvonne Murray of Bethesda, Md., and Eva Kyriakopoulos of Chicago, Ill.; a stepson, Mark Varouxakis of Los Angeles; a sister, Elaine Golan of Illinois; three grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sept. 29 at the United Methodist Church in Steamboat Springs with the Rev. Larry Oman officiating. Musicians were Kathy St. George, Maureen Hogue and Tyke Pierce. Peterson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
