Agency offers HIV tests at reduced charge today

— Planned Parenthood in Steamboat Springs is offering $25 HIV tests in recognition of World AIDS Day, which is today.
World AIDS Day is one day out of the year dedicated to raising awareness about the disease as well as supporting the people infected with HIV, Planned Parenthood center assistant Kyle MacIntosh said.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Planned Parenthood will offer HIV tests, blood or oral, for $25. Normally it costs $45 for an oral test and $58 for a blood test.
MacIntosh said the Planned Parenthood gives an average of 10 to 15 HIV tests a week. Half of the people who get tested at the facility come in specifically for the test, while the other half have it done in addition to other services Planned Parenthood provides, she said.
As far as MacIntosh knows, not one person has tested positive for HIV at Planned Parenthood in Steamboat Springs, she said.
