Floyd James Smith 1924-2000

Floyd James "Jimmie" Smith died Oct. 20, 2000 at Yampa Valley Medical Center. He was 76.

Jimmie was born July 5, 1924 in Alby, Iowa to James Jr. and Bernice (Moore) Smith. He married Sarah Belton June 15, 1944 in Steamboat Springs.

Prior to his retirement, he was a custodian for 17 years at the Steamboat Junior High School. During the war he was employed as a coal miner.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and he enjoyed reading. He was described as being very generous and willing to help others by fixing just about anything.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Jerry Smith of Grand Junction; four daughters, Jackie Powell of Fruita, Lorraine Lamp of Olney Springs, Debbie Smith of Steamboat Springs and Toni States of Lamar; eight grandchildren, Michelle, Troy, Brian, Adam, Samantha, Tori, Jodi and Kim; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Gavin; and three brothers, Tommy and Donald Smith of Craig and Burton "Buster" Smith of Henderson, Nev.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Marion; two sisters, Ruth and Jane; and a grandson, William James.

Memorial services were held Oct. 26 at the Peterson Funeral Home with Rob Ryg of Euzoa Bible Church officiating. There was cremation.
