The Steamboat Springs Chix with Stix women's hockey team opened the home season last weekend in search of a win.
The team is still searching for its first win at home.
Last weekend the Chix tied and lost to the Fort Collins Flames in a pair of home games at the Howelsen Hill Ice Arena.
The Chix's Jen Rose gave the local team a 1-0 advantage early in Friday night's first game against the Flames. But the Fort Collins team answered before the end of the frame to tie the score at 1-1.
In the second, the Flames took the lead at the 5:43 mark. This time, it was the local women who tied the game. Sue Heineke netted an unassisted goal just five seconds later.
Neither team scored in the final period of play nor in a five-minute sudden-death overtime period and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
On Sunday morning, the Flames hit the Chix fast, netting two first period goals. Liz Schnackenberg attempted to spark the Chix with a goal in the second period.
Heineke and Julia Wallace provided the assists, but at the end of two the score remained 2-1. The Flames netted two insurance goals in the final period of play en route to the win.
Steamboat goalkeeper Carol Vittore stopped 32 of 34 shots on Saturday and stopped 18 of 22 shots on Sunday. Steamboat also killed five out of six penalties in Sunday's game.
