Realtors' scholarship golf tourney June 13-14
Tuesday, May 30, 2000
The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors will host its 25th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament, Dinner and Auction June 13 and 14. All proceeds from the event will go to a scholarship fund for Routt County high school students graduating in 2001.
Since 1976, the board of Realtors has been giving back to the community with the annual event. Last year's tournament raised more than $16,000 and awarded 15 scholarships to graduating seniors of Steamboat Springs and Hayden high schools.
"We get great support from the local Realtors, as well as our affiliate companies and friends for this event," said committee member Christine Hands. "We are especially excited to celebrate our 25th anniversary this year and expect to raise a record amount of scholarship money for the students of Routt County."
This year's tournament is scheduled to begin at the Steamboat Sheraton Golf Club June 14. Four- or five-player teams are eligible to participate in the scramble, with a scheduled 1 p.m. shotgun start. Participants must pre-register, and play is limited to 180 players. Fee for golf is $95 on or before June 7 and $105 after June 7, and includes 18 holes of championship golf and cart on game day, and admission to the dinner and auction at the Chart House the previous evening.
Hole sponsors will get more for their investment at this year's event. In addition to the traditional $100 sponsorship opportunities, five individual $500 holes will be available to businesses this year on a first-come, first-served basis.
"Hole sponsors are some of the main sources of scholarship money. We're hoping to double the amount we raise from that source this year," said committee member Kathleen Neal.
Only one business is eligible to sponsor each $500 hole. All par-three holes on the course will be available at that rate, and sponsoring businesses will have the opportunity to set up interactive booths on the holes with banners, giveaways, employees on hand to answer questions, and any other promotions desired.
Usually, 180 members of the Steamboat Springs business community annually participate in the sold-out event.
As in past years, $100 hole sponsorships also are available. Each $100 sponsor will receive a sign on the tee box of a hole and recognition in the Steamboat Pilot/Steamboat Today after the event. Several sponsoring businesses also will share a sign.
Non-golfers and players alike are invited to get a piece of the action at the Chart House dinner and auction beginning at 6 p.m. June 13. In addition to first-rate dining, attendees will participate in silent and bidded auctions featuring a wide variety of donated items.
Past auctions have included Steamboat ski season passes, sports equipment, great values at local restaurants and private golf lessons. Fee to attend only the dinner and auction is $31.
Pre-registration is required, and seating is limited.
