Steamboat Springs A professional search firm has been hired to help the Steamboat Springs Health Care Association find a suitable new chief executive officer, but the firm's name is being kept confidential for now.
"A representative from that firm will be out next week to look at all of our candidates, including internal candidates," board Chairman Bob Maddox said. "We're trying to be very careful in choosing someone who is not only technically proficient, but who will also be a really good fit for the town and board."
CEO Margaret Sabin resigned in March because of what Maddox called "personality differences."
The search firm is out of Kansas City, but chooses to maintain confidentiality at this point in time, said Gary Mielke, a hospital trustee who serves as chairman of the board's search committee.
"The firm will be gathering as much information as possible," he said. "We are interviewing for the culture and community as well as for the hospital. Selecting the right candidate will require this firm getting to know a lot of people locally."
"So far we've received 20 unsolicited resumes it's a good job, it's profitable, it's in a beautiful new facility. It's seen as a really good job opportunity," Maddox said.
Mielke would not say whether any local residents outside of current hospital employees have applied for the position. However, he did say that applications have been received from all over the nation, including Colorado.
Chief Operating Officer Frank May will be acting CEO as of June 1, although Sabin will not leave until the end of June. The overlap between the two is intended to keep things running smoothly.
Sabin's replacement likely won't be named before she leaves; the search process could take another five months, at least, Mielke said.
"We just want to make sure as we go into the future that we're very clear with the new CEO about what we're doing and what we want them to do," Maddox said. "We don't look back on the past as a bunch of errors we just want to make sure we find the best person for the future. We're on a great track. We're all really excited about having new leadership in the hospital."
