Wednesday, May 17, 2000
Steamboat Springs Two young men accused of stealing a $700 rifle from a truck in Phippsburg appeared separately in court Wednesday.
Steamboat Springs resident Jon Gum, 19, is charged with first-degree criminal trespass of a vehicle and theft, both felonies. Phippsburg resident Kenneth Ferrier, 18, is charged with felony theft for receiving a gun he allegedly knew was stolen.
A 15-year-old Phippsburg boy was charged with two counts of felony theft and criminal trespass.
Several thefts in south Routt County apparently started around March 25, when a Phippsburg man reported a loaded Remington 280 rifle was stolen from his locked truck while it was parked at his home on Pine Street.
In court on Wednesday, Gum's lawyer said he had reached agreement with the district attorney's office to reduce his felony charges to a misdemeanor. The case was continued to May 24.
Ferrier's case was continued to June 7.
