Middle school athletes post top results

The middle school track teams nearly swept the competition in the final meet of the season May 13 at Steamboat Springs High School.
The eighth-grade boys and girls both won. The seventh-grade girls followed suit, but the seventh-grade boys were nipped by Moffat County in the final standings.
Tyler Johnson led the way for the eighth-grade team with first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (12.69) and the 200-meter dash (26.10).
The Sailors' Alex King also led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100-meter hurdles. King led the way with a time of 17.10, David McDonald was second at 17.46 and Cody Badaracca was third at 17.88.
The Sailors also swept the shotput event. Marsh Gooding topped the field with a throw of 41-4.5. Nelson was second at 39-4 and Tim Higbee was third at 37-9.75. The Steamboat team scored 105 points in the meet. Moffat County was second at 87.
The eighth-grade girls also chalked up a win in the final meet of the season. Steamboat netted 84 points. Moffat County was second with 82.
Steamboat's Hannah Gary won the high jump with an effort of 4-9. Lindsey Stanford was third at 4-6.
Steamboat also won the 100-meter hurdles with Amanda Gragnebian's time of 19.14. Lisl Pearson won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:08.57.
The Steamboat distance runners also dominated the 800-meter run. Pearson was first at 2:48.8, and Wernig was second at 2:49.04.
Steamboat's Shelley Dunlop won the discus with a throw of 26-7. Steamboat also won the 1,600-meter and 800-meter relay events.
The Steamboat seventh-grade girls also went out on a winning note, scoring 68.5 points at the meet. Craig was second with 52 points.
Steamboat won the 800-meter, 1,600-meter and the 800-meter medley.
Steamboat's Jenna Conlin was also first in the high jump, clearing 4-4. Steamboat's Jennifer Hooper was also first in the 800-meter run.
The seventh-grade boys team placed second with 68 points. Moffat County won with 72.
First-place finishes came from Adam Tilley in the high jump (4-8) and Galen Dahl in the 400-meter run (1:04.16). Andrew Zoph was also first in the discus.
