Woman found murdered in apartment

— A 31-year-old Steamboat Springs woman was found murdered in her apartment early Friday morning, police said.

Lori Bases was reportedly discovered by her roommate lying in a pool of blood about 12:45 a.m. A press release from the Steamboat Springs Police Department states she was the victim of a stabbing. Police have not said where on her body or how many times she was stabbed.

The apartment Bases shared with the man who found her is attached to the rear wall of the garage of a house at 1620 Steamboat Blvd. The home is owned by Nick Sharp who is the landlord of the apartment.

Bases' roommate called police when he returned home and saw her lying on the floor.

The man was hysterical, dispatchers told police. While on the phone, the roommate told a dispatcher that Bases had no pulse.

Police and an ambulance were initially dispatched to the scene, but the ambulance was later cancelled.

Police obtained a search warrant for Bases' residence early this morning. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation was called to assist local police in the investigation. CBI officials were delayed getting to Steamboat when their vehicle slid off U.S. 40 on snowy Rabbit Ears Pass. The vehicle was eventually unstuck and by noon, the CBI investigators were in Steamboat.
