Women's Day features seminars presented exclusively by women
Friday, May 5, 2000
Steamboat Springs Ticket prices for the third annual Women's Day increase after Friday and organizers are urging local women to buy them now.
Tickets for Women's Day, a day of seminars on a variety of topics, are $25 until Friday and then increase to $35 Saturday. Ticket sales end Wednesday for the May 13 event.
"We're encouraging women to sign up a little earlier this year," Yampa Valley Medical Center Public Relations Director Christine McKelvie said. "We don't want anybody to be disappointed."
This year's event, sponsored by Yampa Valley Medical Center and Colorado Mountain College, is similar to those of the past two years, although the seminars will be a few minutes longer.
"Most of the women attendees in the past two years have returned very thoughtful critiques and we read them and took them to heart," McKelvie said.
The day will begin and end with a talk by local Susan de Wardt, who also is presenting a workshop on dreams and journaling.
In between de Wardt's talks, women can pick three 75-minute educational sessions.
Choices include workshops on aromatherapy, resiliency, investing on the Internet, flower arranging, mind/body therapies, parenting, cooking with soy and fitness at home.
Lisa Bankard, co-chair of the event and coordinator of the hospital's Wellness Program, said they tried to include a cross-section of spiritual, hands-on and health topics based on last year's evaluations. She said the more medical topics like osteoporosis are saved for the "Taking Care of Me" series the hospital hosts periodically.
McKelvie said the program has attracted women of all ages from throughout northwestern Colorado. This year's presenters are also all women for the first time.
"This is really an opportunity to showcase local talents," McKelvie said.
Bankard said the evaluations have been extremely positive.
"Most said what they liked so much was being with other women, networking with other women and having a day for themselves," she said.
Women's Day is from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m in Bristol Hall at Colorado Mountain College.
Tickets are available at Yampa Valley Medical Center, CMC and Off the Beaten Path bookstore. For details, call Pam Bosch at YVMC, 870-1116.
