Steamboat Springs — Twin Landfill Corp. will try again tonight to win Routt County's approval for a new repair and maintenance building at the Milner Landfill.

The 1,800-square-foot building was tabled by Routt County Regional Planning Commission April 6, and the applicants will be back before the commission tonight. The landfill is located about 12 miles west of Steamboat Springs and a mile west of Milner on the south side of U.S. 40. The business operation at the landfill is managed out of a trailer situated about a mile from the highway. The new building would replace the trailer.

Staff planner John Eastman said Planning Commission members felt the application wasn't complete when they first reviewed it.

"They wanted a little more detail and they wanted to hold it to the same standards they hold everything else to," Eastman said.

The original site plan showed the new building, but not the existing buildings, and lacked a landscape plan, Eastman said.

Milner Landfill Manager Douglas Bell said he expects a visit from Planning Commission members during the day today and he hopes he's addressed their concerns.

He has provided a more comprehensive site plan and indicated he will plant three, 6-foot evergreens on a 4-foot berm to help screen view of the building.

In other business, the Planning Commission will hear a proposal to amend the Heritage Park Subdivision west of Steamboat to allow an expansion of the parcel devoted to a soccer field. The soccer field will be made available for public use.
