The Steamboat Springs U-16 boys competitive soccer team members are looking forward to playing their first games of the season at home this Saturday and Sunday.
The local U-16 boys team improved its record to 5-1 last weekend with a win over the Colorado Springs Club Pride.
The victory was the local team's third in a row. On April 15 and 16 the local boys knocked off Thompson United and Arvada United.
Steamboat downed the Colorado Springs team 3-1 on April 29 despite only playing with 10 players.
Kelly Carlson netted two goals in the game. The first came on a corner kick. Carlson was able to blast a bouncing ball into the upper corner. Carlson got a nice assist from Kyle Nelson on his second goal. Then, Jamie Jenny netted the Steamboat team's final goal to seal the 3-1 win.
The victory came after a week-long break. Prior to that, the Steamboat team picked up wins on a two-game road trip April 15-16. The Steamboat players collected a 5-3 win over Thompson United Club in Loveland in the first game.
First-half goals by Justin John, Zach Klohr and Nelson gave the Steamboat team the early advantage. Nelson also assisted on the first two goals. One defensive mistake gave Thompson its only goal of the first half.
Steamboat's Todd Bell and Landon Lewis added scores in the second half en route to the 5-3 win.
On Sunday, Steamboat's defense rose to the occasion as Roddy Beall, Jason Sirois, Brock Hicks, Ian Ramsey and Jenny allowed just one shot on goalkeeper Jeremy Youngs. Steamboat secured the 4-0 shutout win behind two goals from both John and Sirois. Assists were provided by Carlson, Nelson and Jenny.
