After a great regular season, the Soroco High School baseball team played its last game last Friday afternoon, losing to Dolores County in Grand Junction, 6-5, in the first round of the 2A playoffs.
Despite the loss, Soroco coaches were impressed with the team's effort.
"It was probably the best game of the season," assistant coach Jeff Seale said.
Dolores County was ranked third going into the tournament and featured a batting lineup that had five players batting over .500.
Soroco showed early that it could play with the team by going up 5-0 after the top of the fourth inning. However, Dolores' hitters stepped up in the bottom of that inning, batting in six runs. "We just couldn't get them back," Seale said.
Despite the flurry of runs in the fourth, Perry Means pitched a strong game, Seale said.
The loss left Soroco with a 5-1 conference record, which gave the team a first-place finish in the Western Slope's 2A Conference.
