Ronald Earl Kirby of McCoy died June 9, 2000, at the Vail Valley Medical Center. He was 79.
Ron was born May 17, 1921, on the Kirby homestead on Red Dirt Pass near Toponas. He married Edith Rossi on March 18, 1944, in Mountain Home, Idaho.
A World War II Army veteran who served in the European theater, Ron worked part-time as a school bus driver for the Eagle County School District for 27 years. He was a member of the Masons and the financial officer for the McCoy American Legion.
Ron was a lifelong rancher and was only away from the Kirby ranch during his military service. He enjoyed ranching, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Ron is survived by his wife, Edith, of McCoy; a son, Leroy, and his wife, Charlene, of McCoy; a daughter, Karen Schmitt, and her husband, Jim, of Yampa; two grandsons, Rick and his wife, Jennifer, of McCoy, and Travis of McCoy; three brothers, Howard of Toponas, Ferris of Clifton and Keith of McCoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Earl; a sister, Corrine Kirby Greves; and brothers Kenneth and Harold.
A graveside service was held June 14 at the McCoy Cemetery.
