Construction worker charged with slashing

— A former employee at a Steamboat Springs construction site was arrested Thursday after allegedly slashing the arm of another man.
Sergio Urias Chavez, 25, was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault after fighting with Steamboat resident Rene Pompa at Quail Run, a condominium complex under construction on Whistler Road.
Director of Public Safety J.D. Hays said Chavez came to the job site at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday and got into an argument with Pompa. Hays said the two men scuffled and Chavez cut the other man on the forearm with an Exacto-knife or box cutting tool.
Chavez left the scene and was detained by police about 30 minutes later at the Steamboat Grand Hotel construction site.
Pompa, 42, was transported by ambulance to Yampa Valley Medical Center and underwent surgery for the cut on his arm. A spokeswoman said he was later released.
Chavez, who gave police a Denver address and a Hayden post office box number, is expected to appear in court today to be advised of the charge against him.
