— A Steamboat Springs man charged with robbery and assault for pushing his friend to the ground and taking her truck without permission was sentenced to six months in jail this week.

Joshua Carter, 25, pleaded guilty last month to third-degree assault and violating conditions of his bail bond.

He was arrested in April after pushing his friend to the ground, covering her mouth with his hand when she yelled and leaving in her truck, which was later recovered. Officials said alcohol was involved in the incident.

Carter was arrested twice for driving under the influence of alcohol in 1996 and twice more in 1998. A condition of his bond from the previous arrests prohibits Carter from drinking alcohol, so he was charged with violating that bond condition.

Carter was ordered to report to the Routt County Jail today to begin serving the six-month sentence. He said he plans to move away from Routt County after his release.
