— The Phippsburg Community Club will receive $10,000 from Great Outdoors Colorado to put in a sprinkler system for the town's park.

The community club found out last month that it would receive the money, but it became official on Monday when the Routt County commissioners, who were acting as the applicants for the grant, signed the GOCo contract.

Included in the terms of the grant was a "memorandum of understanding" stating that the area for the sprinkler system would remain a park for the next 20 years.

Community club member Elvis Iacovetto said nobody has any intention to change the use of the land.

In addition to Routt County officials, the South Routt Recreation Association helped to get the money by writing the grant proposal.

The installation of the sprinkler system in the park was estimated to be $15,000, but the actual cost is not yet known.

"As soon as we get the bid we'll know for sure," Iacovetto said.

The Phippsburg Community Club plans to put up $3,500 to help make up the difference.

The organization also received a grant from the Yampa Valley Community Foundation in March for $1,500.

By the end of the summer the sprinkler system should be installed and ready.
