Tree Haus fire being investigated
Monday, June 5, 2000
Steamboat Springs The cause of Saturday's fire at a Tree Haus home was still being investigated Monday, said Routt County Sheriff's Investigator Gary Sigman, who added he'll have a better understanding of how the fire started after insurance officials complete their investigation later this week.
A phone call to the homeowners, Gary and Nancy Krueger, wasn't immediately returned. They live in San Diego and own the house on William William Road as a vacation home.
Fire officials said a caretaker reportedly checked on the house around 3 p.m. Saturday. The fire was called in by someone on a cellular phone at 7:15 p.m.
Fire Chief Bob Struble said firefighters were en route within two minutes and on scene within six minutes.
Thirteen firefighters used an engine, a heavy rescue truck, a 75-foot ladder truck and a 100-foot tower truck to fight the blaze for approximately two hours.
The house's outside wall, deck and roof were destroyed by the fire and the interior of the home sustained water and smoke damage. The cost of any damage has not been estimated yet.
