Masseur appealing assault conviction

— A Steamboat Springs man convicted of inappropriately touching a woman's genitals during a massage is appealing his case.

Gary Davis was convicted of second-degree sexual assault in April and sentenced to 90 days in the Routt County Jail and 10 years of supervised probation.

Deputy District Attorney Charles Feldmann said Davis completed his jail time but District Judge Joel Thompson set aside the probation, pending an appeal of his conviction.

Davis filed a $5,000 bond with the court and will wait for the Colorado Court of Appeals to rule on the local case, possibly sometime in November.

Davis was arrested in January 1999 after a young woman visiting Steamboat from New York said Davis inappropriately touched her genitals during a massage at Le Refuge Massage Clinic.
