Break's over for Sailor athletes

— Three Steamboat Springs High School sports teams are ready to get back into action since taking off for the holidays.

The Sailors boys and girls basketball teams each have two games this weekend and the wrestling team competes Friday and Saturday.

The boys basketball team, which is 7-0, plays host to the Palisade Bulldogs at home at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The girls team starts the show against Palisade at 6 p.m.

The Sailors basketball teams then travel to Avon to take on the Battle Mountain Huskies Saturday. The girls' game is set for 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30.

The Sailors boys are 4-0 at home this season. They have three road kills: wins over West Grand, Glenwood Springs and Rangely.

The Sailors girls are 3-1 at home and 1-1 on the road.

The wrestling team, which defeated Eagle Valley earlier this season, travels to Avon for a match against Battle Mountain at 6 p.m. Friday. The Sailors are back on the mat again Saturday. The wrestlers will compete at the Eagle Valley Tournament that starts at 9 a.m. at Eagle Valley.

For the boys and girls basketball teams, the games against Palisade mark their first conference games of the season.

"We're definitely ready to start league play," said Andrew Johnston who leads the Sailors in scoring.

"All of the games so far have been preparing us for league play. If we want to make it to the state tournament, we have to beat all these teams in the league.

"We're definitely ready to start playing again."
