Hayden's weekend contests canceled

— Last week, the Hayden boys and girls basketball teams prepared to open up league play Friday and Saturday only to have the games canceled.

The teams were supposed to begin league play Friday night in North Park, but inclement weather canceled the contest.

On Saturday, the two squads were set to host Plateau Valley, but that matchup was also canceled due to the weather.

"It is disappointing," said Donald Rolando, Hayden's girls coach. "We worked all week to get ready to play.

"But there was no way we could get to North Park. Rabbit Ears Pass was closed."

Robert Preator, Hayden's athletics director, will try to reschedule the games, he said.

With the cancellation of the games, the Tigers will have a big gap between games. The two squads do not have any games scheduled this week due to the upcoming Christmas vacation.

"It is going to be a long time between games," Rolando said. "Maybe, we can schedule a scrimmage."

The girls are 3-2 on the season. The boys are 2-3.

The boys' and girls' next games are Jan. 6 in West Grand.
