Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Chix with Stix hockey team dropped to 2-4-2 on the season after suffering back-to-back defeats at the hands of the Denver Bandits Saturday and Sunday.
Steamboat player Renee Dupre scored the opening goal in Saturday's game on an assist from Sue Heineke. But Denver's Lex Kordof powered the Bandits to a 3-1 victory. Kordof scored two goals.
On Sunday, the Chix were blanked 3-0. In that game, Ellen Yeiser led the way with a pair of goals.
Last weekend, the Chix and Bandits fought to a tie during a tournament held in Boulder.
The Chix, who compete in the Colorado Women's Hockey Association, outshot the Bandits 29-23 Saturday.
On Sunday, the Bandits held a 16-15 shot advantage.
Despite having been penalized twice during a 13-second span of the third period Saturday, the Chix held the Bandits scoreless for the one minute and 47 seconds they played without two of their team members.
The Bandits scored at the 8:15- and 3:03-marks of the second period on Saturday and again with only 15 seconds remaining in the game.
Tim Shoreland, who coaches the Chix, said his team played tough Saturday and Sunday against one of the better teams in the league.
"I thought we did pretty well," Shoreland said.
"We're improving every game that we go out there and they're starting to play some really good team hockey.
"Everyone's working the puck and working the system well."
The Chix next play the Rocky Mountain Rockets at 9 p.m. Jan. 6 and again at 11:45 a.m. Jan. 7.
Both games will be played at home.
