Man pleads guilty to assault

— An undocumented alien pleaded guilty to third-degree assault Wednesday stemming from a November incident in which he struck a woman.
Ismael Ramires pleaded guilty to the class one misdemeanor in Routt County Judge James Garrecht's courtroom. Garrecht sentenced the man from Mexico to 30 days in jail, 36 weeks of anger-management classes and one year of probation.
The conviction also will allow the Immigration and Naturalization Service to take the man back to Mexico.
Ramires, 29, pleaded guilty to the charge after a plea agreement was worked out between his attorney, Norm Townsend, and the district attorney's office. In return for the guilty plea, a false imprisonment charge and a felony charge of criminal impersonation were dismissed. According to a court file, Ramires was arrested in a parking lot in the 2100 block of Curve Plaza Road on the evening of Nov. 20.
Ramires, who was intoxicated, was sitting in a parked truck belonging to a 23-year-old Steamboat Springs woman, the file shows. The woman had given Ramires a ride to his home on Dream Island Plaza. Ramires allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle and also would not let the woman out of the truck, the file shows. Ramires grabbed the woman by her hair and slapped her across the face, the file shows.
