Steamboat Springs An 18-year-old Steamboat Springs man has been charged with sexual assault on a child.
The felony was filed against the man Aug. 22, after allegations of sexual contact surfaced earlier in the week, said Charles Feldmann, deputy district attorney.
"There are allegations of sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl," Feldmann said Tuesday.
Feldmann declined to give specific details of the case. He did share that the alleged sexual assault occurred "at a home in the county."
It is the Steamboat Pilot/Today's corporate policy not to name victims in sexual assault cases; suspects will not be named unless convicted.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Steamboat Springs Police Department Aug. 21.
The man was freed when he was able to post a $5,000 bond the next day.
Public Safety Director J.D. Hays, who is handling media requests, could not be reached for comment.
The man's next scheduled court appearance is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 10.
