— A pregnant woman driving a Jeep Cherokee west on U.S. 40 near the base of Rabbit Ears Pass escaped serious injury Thursday when her vehicle rolled into a ditch.

Erin Dubas of Steamboat Springs lost control of her Jeep about 8 a.m. It rotated counterclockwise, slid off the right side of the highway and rolled one time into the ditch, state trooper Dave Seifken said.

Sgt. Duane Bradley of the state patrol said troopers couldn't determine the cause of the accident. He said Dubas, who was ticketed for careless driving, was wearing a seatbelt.

"It sure made a mess out of that Cherokee," Bradley said, adding that pieces of the vehicle were spread all over the highway.

Dubas' husband, Greg, was a passenger in the vehicle and wasn't injured, Bradley said. Dubas suffered some scrapes and bruises and was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center for observation.
