Tuesday, August 15, 2000
The Sullivan Ranch, located in northwest Colorado will be honored at this year's Centennial Farm Awards ceremony at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo.
In all, 10 Colorado farms and ranches will be recognized by the Colorado Historical Society, the Colorado Department of Agriculture and the state fair.
To qualify, a property must have been maintained as a working ranch or farm within the same family for at least 100 years.
This year's winners are being honored at a ceremony beginning at 3 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Pepsi stage in Family Park.
Each of the 10 families that will be honored has its own story to tell, and together, they provide historical insights into the settlement of the state.
The Sullivan ranch is located in the vicinity of Craig, Rio Blanco, Routt and Moffat counties.
An additional award, sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, recognizes families who have maintained historic structures that are at least 50 years old on their farms or ranches.
