Steamboat Springs The number of teams playing softball in Steamboat Springs will be cut in half this week as four of the five recreational adult leagues begin postseason play.
The Coed B, Men's A, Men's B and Coed C leagues will play the first round of a single elimination tournament this week. The winners will advance, the losers will be finished. The only league not to open tournament play this week is the women's league. There are only five teams in that league and the tournament will take just one night, according to organizer Christian Tally.
The 10-week regular season came to a close last Thursday night. Regular season champions include the Dawgs in Men's A. That team finished with a 14-4 record for the season and scored a total of 337 runs.
Things were tight at the top of the Men's B division.
Double Z/All That Jazz, Super 8/Vectra and Old Town Pub/Orowheat all finished with 14-4 recorded. Double Z came out on top of the tie-breakers with 333 runs. Super 8 was second with 314 runs and Old Town was third with 313 total runs.
The Smokehouse won the Coed B division with a 16-2 mark and Yampa Valley Medical Center won the Coed C league regular season title with a 14-4 mark.
The Yampa Valley Medical Center team finished with the same record as Steamboat Premier Properties, but earned a higher seed based on runs scored.
Pisa's/Bonfiglio's at the top of the Women's league in the regular season with a 7-2 mark. That league played its final regular season games Monday night and will play its postseason tournament on Aug. 21.
