Thousands in scholarships available to local students

— Every year, thousands of local dollars go right back into the community through the Steamboat Springs High School Local Scholarship Program.

"I haven't heard of a stronger program in the state," Steamboat Springs High School counselor Mike Campbell said about the local scholarship program.

Numerous local businesses participate in the scholarship program, which was started about 10 years ago. While seniors receive information about the scholarships, Campbell would also like parents to know what is available for their children.

Last year's scholarships totaled over $60,000 and 80 percent of students who applied were rewarded with something.

"If they're going to get a scholarship, this is their best chance," Campbell said. "They're competing against 40 kids instead of hundreds or thousands."

Applications are due to the counseling office by May 1 unless noted otherwise. All application forms are available in the counseling office unless noted.
