TCI Cable pledges to carry Avalanche

— Avalanche fans in Steamboat Springs who have cable may have been a little frustrated Monday night.

While the Avalanche and Coyotes were flipping the puck around the ice, local fans who were flipping through channels were left unsatisfied.

TCI Cable Vision of Colorado manager Tom Cotton said the local carrier is working on solving the problem and hopefully bringing all the local action to Steamboat Springs and Craig.

"The problem is that UPN Channel 20 out of Denver doesn't come over the mountain," Cotton said.

He said the local Denver station has the contract to carry the games with the Avalanche and the station is available mainly in Denver.

Cotton, however, said the TCI worked out a special deal to carry Wednesday game with the Denver station, and will try to continue to carry tonight's Avalanche games and any remaining games that are aired on UPN. The games will only be available to viewers in Steamboat Springs and Craig. The outlying areas (including Hayden) still will not be able to get the games.

Locally, fans will be able to find the games on channel 19 -- when they are available.

Cotton did warn there are technical difficulties from time-to-time, but the local station is doing everything possible to bring Avalanche hockey to Steamboat.
