Steamboat Springs While most members of the 1999-2000 Steamboat Springs girls basketball team have turned their attention to other things, senior Alyssa Simon is still focused on an upcoming basketball game.
The Colorado High School Activities Association All-State Basketball game, set for Greeley in June, will be the final high school game for Simon.
"It should be a great experience," Simon said of playing in Greeley. "The best players in the state are going to be there. It's kind of scary to think that this will be my last high school game. I don't know if I'm ready for it."
The honorary game is the latest in a long line of awards that have come the senior's way since the end of the season last February.
In March, Simon played in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State game in Niwot.
Before that, she was named Player of the Year in the Western Slope Conference and was named to the all-conference team.
She is hoping to sign with a college sometime this spring and be back on the hardwood by next fall.
"Playing in college is going to be totally different," Simon said. "So it makes these games even more special."
Simon said she was glad to get a chance to play in both high school all-star games. It's an opportunity she will not forget and an experience she is hoping will help in the future.
"It was just a lot of fun," Simon said of the first all-state game. "It was kind of laid back, but it was still important to play well."
Sailors head coach Bruce Alston isn't surprised that Simon is getting the post-season recognition. She led the Sailors in scoring this season with 19.8 points a game, pulled in six rebounds per game, had four assists and two steals.
"This is the first time I've had a player go," the fourth-year coach said. "There are only 20 players at this game, so it's a big honor to be named to the team. I think she will do well. She always seems to play up to the level of the competition."
The game will take place June 15 at the University of Northern Colorado's Butler Hancock Gym.
Simon will play on the South team along with nine other players.
The players report to the college campus on June 11. They will practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the game will take place Thursday evening.
