— The Steamboat Springs Sailors scored early and often to to rout the Moffat County High School girls soccer team, 10-0, Tuesday in Craig.

With the win, the Sailors moved to 1-0 in league play and 4-3 on the season. The Bulldogs dropped to 1-5 on the year and 0-1 in conference play.

"We were happy with the way we played," said Sailors coach Jim Dudley. "Anytime you get a league win, it's great."

The Sailors wasted little time to jump on the Bulldogs as Jessica Johnson scored in the first minute of the game. The Sailors went up 2-0 when Jessica Fritz put the ball in the net in the third minute of the game.

Steamboat Springs was just getting warmed up when Andryn Arithson scored at the 10-minute mark, giving Steamboat a 3-0 lead.

Steamboat Springs wasn't anywhere near done yet. Nikki Garth made it 4-0 at the 20-minute mark.

Anya Allen then scored back-to-back goals for the Sailors, one at the 30-minute mark and one at the 32-minute mark, giving Steamboat Springs a commanding 6-0 lead.

"We talked about coming out ready to play and to respect your opponent and play as a team," said Dudley. "They did that and that was great to see."

Steamboat Springs added one more score by Andrea Len just before halftime to put the game away at 7-0 with 40 minutes still left to play.

"The first half knocked the girls flat," Bulldogs coach Eric Johnson said. "They didn't rebound from the rough start like I had wanted them to do. At times, we were playing with 10 people at our own end of the field. We weren't trying to produce a offense and that is what killed us."

In the second half, with the game over, Julie Werning, Liz Masterson and Jessica Fritz all added points for the Sailors, giving Steamboat its 10-0 easy win.

"The Bulldogs kept playing hard even with they were down," said Dudley. "They played hard to every ball and their goalkeeper did a super job."

The Sailors will return to action Saturday when they face the Glenwood Springs Demons.
