— Two Steamboat Ski Area employees were recognized by the Rocky Mountain Lift Association.

Derek Fritz was named the Lift Maintenance Person of the Year, and Ted Serafy was named the Lift Operations Person of the Year, according to news releases.

The awards were announced earlier this month at the 42nd annual Rocky Mountain Lift Association Conference in Grand Junction.

Fritz is a 32-year veteran of Steamboat's lift maintenance department, according to the release. The release states he has created numerous procedures currently in use, led adapting industry changes and overseen significant maintenance projects.

"Derek is the heartbeat of the lift maintenance crew," Kurt Castor, lift maintenance director for Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., said in a release. "He has high expectations for himself, and therefore consistently sets the bar very high for the team; that dedication and attention to detail helps propel our department to the highest level."

Serafy is a senior lift operations supervisor for Ski Corp. and has nearly three decades of industry experience, according to a release.

A news release praises Serafy for his technical contributions to the resort and noted he previously has been recognized as Supervisor of the Month and was nominated for a year-end safety award in conjunction with his actions during an incident last year on the Priest Creek lift.

"I have worked with Ted for his entire tenure in Steamboat and marvel at his continued contributions to lift operations, the resort and industry," Deb Werner, lift operations director for Ski Corp., said in a release. "Ted is an outstanding representative for the resort and very deserving of this industry recognition."

The Rocky Mountain Lift Association was started in 1971 to serve as a professional and educational organization.
