1st-time Steamboat Springs parents welcome Routt County’s 1st baby of 2013
January 3, 2013
Steamboat Springs — The clock hardly had stopped ringing in the new year Tuesday morning when Ann Reese finally broke down and called her doctor.
The expectant mother had been in labor much of the day Dec. 31, and the urgency to give birth began to kick in right around midnight.
"I wanted to call my doctor at midnight, but I thought I couldn't do that to her," Ann said Thursday from the comfort of her Steamboat Springs home. "I think I waited until 12:03."
Ann and her husband, Jason, arrived at Yampa Valley Medical Center about an hour later, and at 7:23 a.m. Jan. 1, she gave birth to Allison Jeanne Reese. The couple's first child is healthy and happy, weighing in at 6 pounds, 9 ounces. Allison is Routt County's first baby of 2013.
Ann and Allison were released from the hospital Wednesday night. Jason had left a bit earlier Wednesday to take care of a few work obligations — he owns JC Services, which does snowplow and contracting work in Steamboat. Ann is a massage therapist at One Steamboat Place.
As the couple settles into its new routine as parents, Ann and Jason could find themselves among those fortunate few whose first weeks as parents include some shut-eye of their own. Ann said Allison's first night included lots of sleep and only one interruption for a middle-of-the-night feeding.
