Search and Rescue retrieves snowboarder

Steamboat Today

— Travis Anderson of Steamboat Springs left to go snowmobiling and snowboarding on Buffalo Pass last Friday. He didn’t make it home until Sunday.

Anderson was eventually helped out of the deep snow in the Soda Creek drainage at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, according to a Routt County Sheriff’s department spokesman.

He was guided out by Routt County Search and Rescue crews who responded to a call of a missing snowboarder at about 5:50 p.m. on Feb. 10.

Buffalo Pass is just north of Steamboat and the road leads to the Continental Divide.

Anderson’s companion, Dusty Dike, reported him missing after he dropped into the drainage on his snowboard and was not seeen again. Dike told search and rescue personnel that his friend was wearing light clothing and had no food.

The incident commander for Search and rescue was John Witte. His crews located Anderson at about 9:30 p.m.

The lost snowboarder was cold and wet, but otherwise fine, according to the sheriff’s report.

His rescuers helped him to warm up before walking out of the mountains with him.
