Said the class will teach search techniques valuable in different conditions, from “creeping line” to expanding square” methods. Also, planned is instruction about aviation safety, emergency procedures, management of aviation resources, aerial search tactics, and briefing and planning issues.
The state search and rescue board offers the training to enhance coordination and effectiveness of search and rescue resources, Loughridge said.
The class will be based at Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden. Flight operations are planned to occur 16 nautical miles north of the airport, in the Routt National Forest. At least three helicopters are expected to be used.
Representatives from a variety of local and regional agencies plan to attend. Routt County Search and Rescue, as well as the local coroner’s and sheriff’s office, are among the 37 participants expected.
Others include Moffat, Pitkin, Larimer and El Paso counties, as well as participants from Crested Butte and the Rocky Mountain National Park.
