Steamboat Springs Two female back-country skiers who spent the night on Rabbit Ears Pass were found the next day by a Routt County Search & Rescue crew.
Linda Gens, 28, Lakewood , and Beatrice Gross, 29, Denver, were skiing near the west summit of Rabbit Ears Pass Saturday. When they didn’t return that night, search and rescue volunteers were dispatched to find them the next day.
After a two hour hunt, the women were found around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. They suffered from exposure.
Gens told sheriff officials that the two got into a hole in the snow and couldn’t get out. As darkness approached they dug a snow cave. When daylight returned, they managed to get out and start up a hill. Then they were found by search and rescue crews.
