Today’s Winter Carnival events focus on competition and fun, with the Soda Pop Slalom starting things off at 10 a.m. at Steamboat Ski Area. At Howelsen Hill, junior skiing events are from 1:30 to 3 p.m.; a tubing party is from 3 to 6 p.m.; and Nordic jumping is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Learn more about the annual event in the Winter Carnival festival guide inside today’s Steamboat Today. Street events including skijoring are from 9 a.m. to noon on Lincoln Avenue; Alpine ski flying is at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Howelsen Hill; the muzzle loading biathlon is from noon to 2 p.m. at Howelsen; and the Night Extravaganza featuring The Lighted Man and a fireworks display is at 6:30 p.m. at Howelsen. Events require a Winter Carnival button, available for $7 at local businesses and at event gates.

The Diamond-Hitch Parade starts at about 11:30 a.m. on Lincoln; Alpine ski flying finals are at 1 p.m. at Howelsen; and the festival finishes with a parent-child downhill event from 1 to 2 p.m. at Howelsen.
