— Four Steamboat Springs residents and one adopted hometown hero are among the six U.S. Nordic combined skiers named to the World Championship team that will compete next month in Oslo, Norway.

Olympic medalists Johnny Spillane, Todd Lodwick and Billy Demong will lead the team that also includes Steamboat's Taylor and Bryan Fletcher and Park City, Utah's Nick Hendrickson.

"The team is going to be a mix of veterans and newcomers," head coach Dave Jarrett said in a news release Monday. "We are looking forward to Oslo with the Nordic atmosphere, crowds and the chance to perform on a big stage. We will prepare the best we know how and do everything we can to win medals."

The World Championships will be held Feb. 26 to March 4. The team's makeup was based on World Cup and Continental Cup results.

Spillane, Lodwick and Demong have been competing on reduced schedules in preparation for the World Championships. Lodwick has the best U.S. result on the World Cup this year with a fourth-place finish in Austria earlier this month. Spillane, who suffered a knee injury in summer, made his comeback just a week ago. Demong took a month off in anticipation of the birth of his son.

Lodwick and Demong won World Championship titles in 2009, with Demong clinching the large hill and Lodwick topping the Gundersen and mass start normal hill events. Spillane won a World Championship title in 2003.

The Fletcher brothers head into the World Championships after posting top-30 results on the World Cup this season.

"Bryan Fletcher has had the best season of anyone on the team this year," Jarrett said. "We are looking forward to seeing his progression continue in Oslo, and Taylor Fletcher is coming on strong."

The World Championships begin Feb. 26 with the normal hill competition. The 2011 schedule was changed from 2009, when the mass start event was added to the program. It has since been eliminated and a second team event added.
