United Way event surpasses fundraising goal with $44,156
September 16, 2011
Steamboat Springs — Routt County United Way Executive Director Kelly Stanford was worried the rain Thursday would turn away donors during the $10K Day for United Way fundraising event, which served as the kickoff for the organization's 29th annual giving campaign.
But by Thursday afternoon, the total raised came to $44,156 and counting.
"I don't know why I should be surprised by the generosity of our community because we are a generous community and they've always come out to support our efforts," Stanford said. "I thought the weather would be a deterrent today, but it didn't stop anyone."
The fundraising total included more than $7,000 from the workplace giving campaign at Yampa Valley Bank, which coincided with the $10K Day event. Yampa Valley Bank, which hosted the event, also provided a $5,000 match.
And the number is subject to increase, Stanford said. She said it doesn't include the final tally from the Yampa Valley Bank workplace giving campaign, dollars collected by tellers and donations submitted through the mail and online.
The $10K Day proceeds will go toward United Way's 2012 annual giving campaign, which has as a fundraising goal of $510,000. Funding from the campaign supports more than 40 local health and human service organizations.
