The submission deadline has been announced for the 2014 Steamboat Springs Business Plan Competition, according to a news release.

Those interested in entering the contest have until Sept. 15 to create, hone or finalize his or her business plans for the competition, which is sponsored by Colorado Mountain College, the city of Steamboat Springs and Yampa Valley SCORE. Plans should be submitted to Randy Rudasics at the Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center at Colorado Mountain College’s Alpine Campus.

The $15,000 the city is supplying in prize money will be split with $10,000 for the first place business plan and $5,000 for the second place plan. The prize money is taxable income for the winners.

The winner also will get three months of office space in the CMC’s Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center and “an introduction to a venture capital investor to better understand their equity investment options,” the release states.

Mountain Pine Manufacturing won the inaugural competition in 2012, and Nelson Carmichael won 2013’s competition.

The rules, guidelines and judging criteria for the contest now are available at the Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center or by contacting Rudasics at rrudasics@coloradomtn.edu. The competition will include presentations to a panel of judges, which will be scheduled for October.

The contest is open to those looking to establish a new business or substantially change the direction of an existing business in Routt County.

Two free seminars are being offered to support those interested in preparing a business plan for the competition. They will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 15 and July 16 at the Yampa Valley Entrepreneurship Center.
