Steamboat’s Harbert Lumber to become ProBuild
April 1, 2011
Steamboat Springs — Harbert Lumber in Steamboat Springs is slated to reopen Monday as a ProBuild, store General Manager Rod Wille confirmed Friday.
Wille said the change in ownership to Denver-based ProBuild would result in "business as normal."
"Hopefully, we'll have a lot of good changes," he said. "We have the same employees, so we'll have the same people working here."
Wille said he would continue to manage the lumber operation, which he has run for nine years. The business has been Harbert Lumber since September 2007, when it switched over from BMC West.
"Over the years, it's changed quite a bit, actually," Wille said about ownership of the business. He said store hours would remain the same: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
ProBuild hasn't released official information about an acquisition of Harbert Lumber.
"I can confirm that ProBuild and Harbert Lumber are currently discussing a possible transaction," Marketing Director Carolyn Atkinson said Friday in an email.
ProBuild started in 1997 and has more than 470 locations nationwide, according to its website. That makes the company the largest professional dealer in the U.S., the site states.
Harbert Lumber is a family-owned company started in 1937, according to its website. Harbert had locations in Grand Junction, Aspen and Glenwood Springs as well as Steamboat. The Grand Junction Free Press reported that the Grand Junction location closed Wednesday.
Wille said little would change for customers in Steamboat.
"Going forward, we're going to service the customer, and under ProBuild we're looking forward to the change," he said.
