— The Steamboat Springs Free Summer Concert Series announced Tuesday its fifth and final entry in this summer's schedule of musical performances.

The last band to be announced will be the first to get Steamboat residents ready for a rocking season.

New Orleans quintet Dumpstaphunk will return to Northwest Colorado for a June 28 engagement at Howelsen Hill, kicking off the series earlier than its organizers originally had planned.

"There were a lot of different dates we were looking at for our fifth show, like maybe later in the summer," board member Coleman Cook said. "But a lot of our fans are looking forward to having us bring them a show as soon as we can."

In addition to finalizing the lineup, the locations of the concerts also were announced. All but one of the concerts will take place at Howelsen Hill, with the Carolina Chocolate Drops show July 26 set for Gondola Square.

The latest concert means the series will feature three consecutive weekends filled with good tunes, with Sam Bush Band and Drive-By Truckers following on July 5 and 12, respectively.

"We'll be starting the summer off with a bang, and they're a fan favorite," Cook said about the newly added band.

Dumpstaphunk is led by Ivan Neville, who has performed with the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt and the Spin Doctors, to name a few collaborators. The son of vocalist Aaron Neville, of the Neville Brothers, his main project focuses on funk and soul with a Big Easy sound.

The band's last gig in Steamboat was during Mardi Gras in 2012, but its sound remains as strong whether it's Fat Tuesday or any other time of year.

"I think they'll really round out the series nicely," Cook said. "They'll give us a nice cross-section of genres."
