Steamboat City Council, School Board candidates to talk child care
September 28, 2011
A majority of candidates running for the Steamboat Springs City Council and the Steamboat Springs School Board will attend a forum Wednesday to discuss their views on early childhood care and education.
The 10 candidates expected to attend the First Impressions of Routt County forum will field questions from the First Impressions Early Childhood Council and the audience. The forum starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Hearing Room in the Routt County Courthouse.
City Council candidates expected to attend are John Fielding, Rich Levy, Scott Myller, Bart Kounovsky, Sonja Macys, Dave Moloney and Daryl Levin. School board candidates include Rebecca Williams, Sandra Sharp and Wayne Lemley.
Stephanie Martin, of First Impressions of Routt County's Early Childhood Council, said the event is an opportunity for candidates to learn how the organization interacts with the community.
"Not only do the candidates learn about the impact of early childhood education," Martin said, "but this is also an opportunity for the public to see where they stand on issues relating to preschool and child care that are facing Routt County families."
