Steamboat briefs: United Way Holiday Wishes campaign now under way

The ninth annual United Way Holiday Wishes campaign kicks off Saturday, when Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue members will be at Walmart from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. letting shoppers know what items are needed. Volunteers also will be outside Walmart from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 11.

Those who would like to contribute also can find a list of needed gifts at http://www.mygiftlist.com through Dec. 19. Once on the site, click on the “Find Gift Registry” tab and type “Steamboat” as the first name and “Holiday Wishes” as the last name. Cash, checks and Chamber Bucks also can be donated.

The goal of the program is to adopt 70 families this year, which is a 25 percent increase from last year, according to a news release.

Those who participate in the program are invited to drop off their wrapped gifts during a holiday party from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11 at Rex’s American Grill & Bar.

“The support of the community has been extraordinary throughout the years, and I am excited to see how many people we can get involved in giving and the difference we can make as a community for many families this holiday season,” Rex Brice, owner of Steamboat Restaurant Group, said in the news release.
