VNA warns about measles, and offers vaccinations

On a flight in June through Denver International Airport, 12 Coloradans were possibility exposed to measles, according to a news release. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can result in pneumonia, encephalitis and even death. The U.S. rate for measles is at its highest since 1996 and travelers to Europe, Africa, and Asia have been sources of imported cases in the United States. International travelers including infants, age 6 months and older, should be immunized. Adults and young children should receive two vaccinations before traveling internationally. The measles vaccination (MMR) is available at Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association for $14 for ages 6 months and older. Call 970-824-8233 in Craig or 970-879-1632 in Steamboat Springs for more information or to make an appointment.
