Steamboat Briefs: Summer reading programs in South Routt are starting

Steamboat Springs — The Summer Reading Program is starting in South Routt County for the Yampa and Oak Creek public libraries. The program is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, beginning June 15, at both libraries.
Bust of Steamboat seeking 5 artist entries for event
The Bust of Steamboat has five positions available for potential artists to create a piece of artwork and help raise money for local women in the fight against breast cancer.
Submit an application and artist rendering for the 10th annual Bust of Steamboat. This gives artists all summer to work on their creation and be ready for a public viewing all October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project selection committee is looking for artists and sponsors for the 2011 October fundraiser. The organization is 100 percent volunteer, and 100 percent of proceeds stay in Routt and Moffat counties.
The 10th annual Bust of Steamboat is from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 21 at Three Peaks Bar & Grill.
Horse shows set for June 18, July 9 at fairgrounds
A Yampa Valley Horse Show Association Open Horse Show is at 8 a.m. June 18 and July 9 at the Routt County Fairgrounds. English, Western and hunter/jumper divisions will be included. All age groups, breeds and experience levels are invited. Register at http://www.yampavalleyhorseshow.com or at 7 a.m. on the day of the show. Registration is $9 in advance or $10 on show day.

Horizons volunteer group is seeking new mentors
Horizons Specialized Services is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to individuals with developmental disabilities in Moffat and Routt counties. Volunteers spend at least three hours a month with Horizons clients. Activities can include hiking, biking, bowling, swimming, fishing, walks, etc. The group needs volunteers for the Steamboat Marathon, swimming and boating programs.

Food bank in Hayden will distribute food as needed
