Steamboat briefs: Annual Fireman’s Ball fundraiser is on Jan. 28

The annual Fireman's Ball fundraiser is at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at The Steamboat Grand. Tickets are $65 per person and include dinner and dancing, with music by the Brian Smith Band. Proceeds benefit the Fire Fighter Community Assistance Fund, which offers assistance to individuals after an emergency, and the Public Safety and Education Program, which teaches ways to stay safe and healthy and how to deal with emergencies. Tickets for the formal-attire event are available at Steaming Bean Coffee Co., Seventh Street and Lincoln Avenue, and from Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue firefighters. Treasurer's Office working on property tax software
The Routt County Treasurer's Office is undergoing a conversion to a new property tax software program from today to Friday. The office will be open from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through Friday during the transition. On Friday, employees will not have access to property tax programs. The Treasurer's Office website, http://www.co.routt.co.us, will be available throughout the conversion. Information from the 2011 tax year will not be available until Jan. 16. ReStore is expanding its hours and store space
ReStore, Routt County Habitat for Humanity's nonprofit appliance store, is expanding its hours and space at 718 Oak St. ReStore is open from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and closed Sundays. Yampa Valley Singers to hold rehearsal on Jan. 17
The Yampa Valley Singers begins rehearsal Jan. 17 for the spring concert "Amazing Grace: Music of our Heritage," which will be performed April 13 and 14. Interested singers are welcome to rehearsals from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at the United Methodist Church of Steamboat Springs, 736 Oak St. Registration is $35. Horizons volunteers are sought to serve as mentors
Horizons Specialized Services is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to individuals with developmental disabilities in Moffat and Routt counties. Volunteers spend at least three hours a month with Horizons clients. Activities can include hiking, biking, bowling, swimming, fishing, walks, etc. The group needs volunteers for swimming and boating programs. Local groups reach out to returning service members
The Routt County Veterans Affairs, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4264 and American Legion Post 44 in Steamboat would like to meet and greet local sons and daughters returning from military service. The VFW is looking for female war veterans. The American Legion also is looking for new members.
