Stars at Night fundraiser returns to Steamboat
December 19, 2013
Steamboat Springs — Sometimes, things just line up.
This year marks the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club's 100th anniversary, occurring in an Olympic year.
"It really is perfect timing," said Patti Kauf-Melehes, director for the Winter Sports Club Foundation.
Right on cue, the foundation will host its annual Stars at Night fundraising gala.
The gala begins at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 30 at The Steamboat Grand. Tickets must be purchased by Dec. 26. Individual tickets are $150 and are available online by clicking here. They are also available at Christy Sports locations in Gondola Square and Central Park Plaza or at the Winter Sports Club offices.
"Community support is a huge part of this event," Kauf-Melehes said.
The foundation serves as the Winter Sports Club's endowment fund, and it hosts the annual fundraiser.
Past, present and future Olympians will join the celebration for a night of live entertainment, drinks, dinner and dancing.
There also will be silent and live auctions that will benefit the Winter Sports Club. Auction items include winter and summer trips, dining packages, shopping packages and ski passes.
This year, there also are several items up for auction that are unique to the event, including activities with Olympians. People can bid on a guided fly-fishing trip with former Olympian Johnny Spillane or a dinner and Olympic watch party hosted by former Olympian Caroline Lalive Carmichael.
"The real fun ones are the ones you get to do with all the athletes," Kauf-Melehes said. "You can't go out anywhere and just buy those."
Last year's event raised more than $60,000, and Kauf-Melehes said the goal is to raise more than $100,000 this year.
To date, the foundation has raised about $3 million and last year contributed more than $130,000 to the club. Throughout the years, the foundation has given the Winter Sports Club $1.3 million, which is used for scholarships and coaching among other things.
