Soroco fall sports teams earn season awards
November 18, 2010
Steamboat Springs — The Soroco High School football team made its first trip to the 8-man playoffs this year, eventually falling to Dayspring Christian.
And in the Rams' first year in the North Central Division, they placed four players on the first team all-division squad, with two players earning honorable mention nods.
Ben and David Strait, Jacob Hange and Joey Anderson earned first team, and Pie Lombardi and Nic Paxton were named honorable mention.
"I'm really pleased to get as many as we got," Soroco coach David Bruner said. "I thought looking at everything they were pretty deserving. The other coaches saw how important these guys were."
In addition to the all-division selections, the Strait brothers and Hange also made the initial list of players who could be selected for the 6- and 8-man all-state football game. More than 70 schools from each division and league nominate players for the game.
Those selections will be made in December.
On the volleyball side, Soroco also was represented well.
Seniors Caitlyn Berry and Ceanna Rossi were named first team all-district, and senior Corey Snyder, juniors Shelby and Lindsay Miles and sophomore Micaela Meyer were named honorable mention.
Berry and Rossi "are both considering pursuing college volleyball and are very capable of playing at the next level," Rams coach Kim Reeves said. "Caitlyn was No. 3 on the all-state ballot for our league, and Ceanna was No. 4 on the list. Hopefully they will get an opportunity to play in that game later in the year."
