— A break from the recent trend of snow and cold Sunday spurred bikers to hit area roads and kayakers to play in the Yampa River.

And some more warm days are in this week’s forecast for the Yampa Valley.

Dennis Phillips, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, said a series of small snowstorms are expected to impact the mountains Monday and Tuesday before skies clear up and temperatures start to rise Wednesday.

Local weather forecaster Mike Weissbluth wrote Sunday that he expects Mount Werner will pick up an additional 4 to 8 inches of snow by Tuesday morning.

The Weather Service is advising travelers that they are likely to encounter icy roads on mountain passes at the start of the week.

After the storms move out, Steamboat should see a warming trend as high temperatures reach into the mid-50s, Phillips said.

The recent snowstorms continue to bolster snowpack across the state.

As of April 19, snowpack in the combined Yampa and White river basin was at 91 percent of average, while snowpack statewide was 87 percent of average.

Steamboat Springs has measured 24.6 inches of snow so far this month.

The average snowfall in the city is 13.4 inches.
